Here is an interesting article that ties in with all the meditation info that I have been posting. Here again, are some results from a study to show how meditation can be quite healthy for mind, spirit and body. This article was written by By Cathy Wong, About.com Guide to Alternative Medicine.
Meditation may boost memory, a recently published preliminary study shows. In an experiment involving a group of older adults--all of whom had some degree of memory impairment at the study's start--researchers found that regular meditation practice helped improve blood flow to the brain.
For eight weeks, 14 study members practiced a daily 12-minute meditation exercise known as Kirtan Kriya. Tests conducted at the end of the eight-week period showed that the participants had an increased blood flow in brain regions involved in retrieving memories. The study members also had improved performance on tests measuring cognitive function, memory, and attention.
Meditation may offer a host of other health benefits, including stress relief, management of chronic pain, improvement in symptoms of depression, and promotion of sounder sleep.
