Meditation for a sharper mind and memory.
Here is an interesting article that ties in with all the meditation info that I have been posting. Here again, are some results from a study to show how meditation can be quite healthy for mind, spirit and body. This article was written by By Cathy Wong, About.com Guide to Alternative Medicine.
Meditation may boost memory, a recently published preliminary study shows. In an experiment involving a group of older adults--all of whom had some degree of memory impairment at the study's start--researchers found that regular meditation practice helped improve blood flow to the brain.
For eight weeks, 14 study members practiced a daily 12-minute meditation exercise known as Kirtan Kriya. Tests conducted at the end of the eight-week period showed that the participants had an increased blood flow in brain regions involved in retrieving memories. The study members also had improved performance on tests measuring cognitive function, memory, and attention.
Meditation may offer a host of other health benefits, including stress relief, management of chronic pain, improvement in symptoms of depression, and promotion of sounder sleep.

What does your choice of dessert say about you?
If all of the eight desserts (that are listed below) were sitting in front of you, which would you choose? You can only pick one. Pick your dessert, then look to see what psychiatrists think about you. Make your choice before you check the meaning - you can't change your mind once you scroll down, so think carefully about what your choice will be.
Here are your choices:
1. Angel Food Cake
2. Brownies
3. Lemon Meringue Pie
4. Vanilla Cake With Chocolate Icing
5. Strawberry Short Cake
6. Chocolate Cake With Chocolate Icing
7. Ice Cream
8. Carrot Cake
OK, now that you've made your choice, this is what the researchers say about you... SCROLL DOWN---
1. ANGEL FOOD CAKE -- Sweet, loving, cuddly. You love all warm and fuzzy items. A little nutty at times. Sometimes you need an ice cream cone at the end of the day. Others perceive you as being childlike and immature at times.
2. BROWNIES -- You are adventurous, love new ideas, and are a champion of underdogs and a slayer of dragons. When tempers flare up you whip out your saber. You are always the oddball with a unique sense of humor and direction. You tend to be very loyal.
3. LEMON MERINGUE -- You are articulate with your hands, you are an excellent caregiver and a good teacher. But don't try to walk and chew gum at the same time. A bit of a diva at times, you set your own style because you do your own thing. You shine when it comes to helping others and have many friends.
4. VANILLA CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING -- Fun-loving, sassy, humorous, not very grounded in life; very indecisive and lacking motivation. Everyone enjoys being around you, but you are a practical joker. Others should be cautious in making you mad. However, you are a friend for life.
5. STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE -- Romantic, warm, loving.. You care about other people, can be counted on in a pinch and expect the same in return.. Intuitively keen.. You can be very emotional at times but a true person in every way. You like to do things for yourself and help others learn about themselves.
6. CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING-- Always ready to give and receive. Very creative, adventurous, ambitious, and passionate. You can appear to have a cold exterior but are warm on the inside. Not afraid to take chances. Will not settle for anything average in life. Love to laugh.
7. ICE CREAM -- You like sports, whether it be baseball, football, basketball, or soccer. If you could, you would like to participate, but you enjoy watching sports. You don't like to give up the remote control. You tend to be self-centered and high maintenance.
8. CARROT CAKE -- You are a very fun loving person, who likes to laugh.. You are fun to be with. People like to hang out with you. You are a very warm hearted person and a little quirky at times. You have many loyal friends. You were meant to lead and teach others. A wonderful role model.

How to meditate your pain away.
This article was written by author unknown and published in The Independent. You may read the article in it's entirety below or you can click on the link --> http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/how-to-meditate-your-pain-away-1922082.html
On March 15, a new study published in the Journal of Pain, the peer-reviewed journal of the American pain Society, found meditation an effective tool in reducing pain and anxiety. Here are some tips to meditate your pain away. MeditationGeek, a user-friendly meditation blog, recommends these simple steps to meditating minor pain away.
Step 1: Stabilize your mind
Step 2: Identify the area where you feel pain.
Step 3: Focus your mind to the pain sensation in the area.
Step 4: Notice if the pain sensation changes.
Step 5: If your mind wanders, gently bring your mind back to the object of your meditation, which is a focused awareness on pain.
Mind stabilization can be achieved with mindfulness meditation, described as "a simple mental exercise, which develops mindfulness and concentration by paying attention on a chosen object (for example, taste of food or activity you wish to focus on) and holding the attention for a period of time. Mindfulness meditation does not necessarily require sitting but can be practiced while eating, walking, running, commuting, and doing other activities. This mental exercise also helps develop an ability to sustain mindfulness for prolonged time."
Here are helpful tips for quieting an unquiet mind:
• Meditate for only one minute (gradually move to 2,3,4... minutes)
• Use a timer to remind you of an end of a meditation session.
•Instead of trying to stop, welcome whatever arises.
•If you cannot concentrate on the object of your meditation, pay attention to the thoughts and stories occurring in your mind instead.
•If you cannot meditate while sitting, meditate while eating, talking, running, etc.
•Discuss your problem with a mentor, teacher or experienced meditator.
•Practice meditation in a group (or join a retreat).

Did you know that Zen Meditation reduces sensitivity to pain?
Here is an article written by author unknown, yet published in MassageMag.com. This article speaks of proof on how Zen meditation can help people and even reduce sensitivity to pain.
Many massage clients seek out massage to help manage or reduce pain. New research shows Zen meditation can reduce sensitivity to pain.
Researchers from the University of Montréal made their discovery by comparing the grey matter thickness of Zen meditators and non-meditators. They found evidence that practicing the centuries-old discipline of Zen can reinforce a central brain region (anterior cingulate) that regulates pain, according to a university press release. "Through training, Zen meditators appear to thicken certain areas of their cortex and this appears to be underlie their lower sensitivity to pain," says lead author Joshua A. Grant, a doctoral student in the University's department of physiology. "We found a relationship between cortical thickness and pain sensitivity, which supports our previous study on how Zen meditation regulates pain."

Meditation and how does it help?
Here is a great article written by Kevin Pederson about meditation and how it can help us. Enjoy.
The stressful lives we lead today take their toll on our health. Mental stress and physical fatigue drain us of our positive energy leaving us depleted physically, mentally and emotionally. Considered to be part of alternative medicine, meditation is fast gaining popularity amongst conventional medical practitioners as well. Patients are increasingly being advised to meditate for sometime in the day, which is believed to have a positive effect along with the allopathic medicines prescribed for a number of medical conditions.
What is meditation? Meditation is a technique that helps us focus and calms the mind resulting in relaxed and restful state of physical and mental being. Meditation is generally focused on one constant thing, usually your breath. Meditation is an effective tool to gain mind control, self-awareness and understanding that eventually lead to inner calm and peacefulness. For people practice meditation, it can lead to profound experiences of self-realization and transcendental awareness and knowledge. A proven alternative therapy, meditation is a known stress reliever.
Meditation is beneficial not only psychologically but is known to have positive effects on various health conditions ranging from blood pressure, insomnia to even depression. There are different techniques of meditation that people follow today. These are a product of diverse cultures and peoples around the world. The power of meditation has been harnessed to alleviate pain, suffering and promote healing for centuries in different cultures and religions, in some or the other form.
Types of meditation
There are various types of meditation that originate from various parts of the world. Prayer is possibly the most common one, the others are Transcendental Meditation, mindfulness meditation, Zen meditation, Buddhist Meditation and Taoist Meditation. The body under meditation Scientific experimentation and research has found out how the human body reacts under profound meditation. It has been found that the meditation process counteracted the effects of the sympathetic nervous system – the one that wants to fight or flee. Whereas the sympathetic system dilates the pupils and gets the heart rate, respiration and blood pressure up, the parasympathetic system, activated when we meditate, does just the opposite. Muscle tension decreases, blood pressure drops, and for some extraordinary practitioners, even temperature and basal metabolism rates drop during a prolonged meditation. Oxygen needs of the body are reduced when you are in a highly relaxed state, and brain waves change from the busy beta waves to the blissful alpha waves.
Meditation Techniques
There are two major approaches to meditation, which are Concentrative Meditation and Mindfulness Meditation. These can be explained as follows –
1. Concentrative Meditation The approach to still the mind is to focus the attention on the breath, image or sound (mantra). This gives way to greater awareness and clarity. In its most basic form concentrative meditation requires you to sit quietly and focus your attention on your breath. Practitioners of yoga and meditation believe that there is a direct correlation between one’s state of mind and one’s breath. For e.g. when a person is anxious, frightened, agitated or distracted, the breath will tend to be shallow, rapid and irregular. On the other hand, when the mind is calm, focused and composed, the breath tends to be slow, deep and regular.
2. Mindfulness Meditation In this type of meditation, the mind is aware of all that is happening around you. You just observe the sounds, feelings, sensations, images, thoughts, smells etc without getting involved in them or thing about them. The person is just like a spectator who is witnessing everything but one who does not react or get involved with thoughts, memories, feelings, worries or images. This helps to gain a more calm,
clear and non-reactive state of mind.

Meeting our minds: Is meditation practical?
Here is an article written by David Nichtern and published in the Huffington Post. He brings up some good points to consider and give his opinion of it. It's a fairly short article, but it may be worth you taking a look. There is also a reference (after the article) to another post he wrote and on Om Yoga just incase you are interested in those subjects. Click on the link below to read the article.

My love is alive.......is yours?
Well I think it's time to get ready
To relax just what I have found
I have lived only half of what I am
It's all clear to me now
My heart is on fire
My soul's like a wheel that's turnin'
My love is alive, my love is alive, yeah, yeah, yeah
There's something inside
That's making me crazy
I'll try to keep it together
'Cause what I say may not happen the same way
Now could be forever
My heart is on fire
My soul's like a wheel that's turnin'
My love is alive, my love is alive, yeah, yeah, yeah
There's a mirror moving inside my mind
Reflecting the love that you shine on me
Hold on now to that feeling
Let it flow, let it grow, yeah, yeah
(repeat chorus)

Reiki Meditation Techniques - by Cristian Stan
Focus and Tranquillity
You practice meditation in order to find your inner peace and to regain your peaceful state both in mind and body. Through meditation one person can find harmony within itself and relax his mind. Having the necessary time to reflect and focus you find your energy balance.
A fundamental aspect to meditations is for you to create a focus point where to channel your energy. Your hands can act as a focus point for your energy. In this case you should keep your hands close to your chest in a prayer like formation. The middle fingers can help your mind stay in touch with your meditation by pressing the middle fingers together – they are a mean of refocusing.
Deep Thoughts and Deeper Breathing
In Reiki meditation the breathing techniques are more that essential if you want to reach an optima meditation session. Through deep breathing you gain access to the spiritual body. Exhaling and inhaling thoroughly you can penetrate through different states of your body including mental and emotional body. You can ask a question or think of an idea while doing these exercises.
The idea or question can refer to anything from a person to a thing. You can keep your mind from straying from your purpose by using the fire fingers – the middle fingers. It’s recommended that you should limit your meditation sessions to fifteen minutes when doing it the first time.
Emotions and Symbols
Using shorter meditation sessions allows you to find the best focusing and breathing methods. Only this way you’ll have full control over your mind. You need this in order to stay focused through entire meditation. You need more than the power symbol if you want a full experience. You need to add to your meditation emotional and distance symbols. With these three symbols combined you can use the Reiki energy to heal you or others. At the same time you can use this energy to counter the effects of your negative feelings.
The more you practice the more comfortable you’ll be through your meditation session and you’ll have a better control over your mind and body. Deep breathing and the use of your hands help you channel the energy from your toes up to the head. You need to practice Reiki meditation for years in order to reach all the meditation levels.
The Reiki principles help us in turning the negative energy from our body to positive energy and that translates into a better state of being. Meditation can help us clear our mind and keep a healthier body.

Desire and the spiritual life - by James Martin, S.J.
Expressing our desires brings us into a closer relationship with God. Otherwise, it would be like never telling a friend your innermost thoughts. Your friend would remain distant. When we tell God our desires, our relationship to God deepens.
Desire is a primary way that God leads people to discover who they are and what they are meant to do. On the most obvious level, a man and a woman feel sexual, emotional and spiritual desire for one another, and in this way discover their vocations to be married. A person feels an attraction to being a doctor, or a lawyer, or a teacher, and so discovers his or her "vocation." Desire helps us find our way. But we first have to know them. The deep longings of our hearts are our holy desires. Not only desires for physical healing, but also the desires for change, for growth, for a fuller life. Our deepest desires, those desires that lead us to become who we are, are God's desires for us. They are ways that God speaks to you directly.
But desire gets a bad rap in many spiritual circles--because desires are often confused with selfish wants. But our selfish wants--I want a new car because my friend has one; I want a bigger TV because my brother-in-law has one; I want a more expensive suit so that people will think I'm cool--are different than our deep, heartfelt longings, which lead us to God. And it takes time to be able to discern between the two kinds of desires. Desire is a key part of spirituality because desire is a key way that God's voice is heard in our lives. And our deepest desire, planted within us, is our desire for God.
This article was written by James Martin, SJ. The Rev. James Martin is a Catholic priest and culture editor of America magazine. Before entering the Jesuits in 1988 he graduated from the Wharton School of Business. This essay was adapted from his new book, "The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything."

Reach out and touch faith.....strong sentence. Do you believe?
Reach out and touch faith
Your own Personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own Personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who's there
Feeling's unknown and you're all alone
Flesh and bone by the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer
Take second best
Put me to the test
Things on your chest
You need to confess
I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver
Reach out and touch faith
Your own Personal Jesus
Feeling's unknown and you're all alone
Flesh and bone by the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer
I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver
Reach out and touch faith
Your own Personal Jesus
Reach out and touch faith

He told me her name is Marticual, and that she is from the 7th vibrational realm. This is a very high energy realm, one that is the closest to God. What she wants everyone to do is sit in silence for 10 minutes on the 13th, and imagine the goodness they would like to have more of in their lives, and that it will be granted. The energy will be strongest from 1:00 PM until 4 PM, PST. After 4 PM, the energy will continue to weaken, and by 10:00 PM PST, it will be totally gone. What you should do is focus on a desire. The more clear you are on what you desire, the better the results. So she suggested making a detailed and specific list of ONE THING that you desire, and focus only on that one thing.
Sit upright and place your list in your lap. Sit with you ankles crossed, left over the right, and with your hands in your lap, palms up, and resting on each knee. Repeat the following words: Marticaul, I humbly request that you surround me at this moment, and help to raise my consciousness to the highest level of manifestation energy. Please help me to create the goodness that I desire. Then, look at your list, as you allow yourself to daydream and imagine, the things you desire happening in your life, exactly as you desire it. The longer you can sit and do this, the more powerful the effect. Do this no shorter than 10 minutes, and no longer than 1 hour. The better you can visualize and daydream, the stronger the effect. When you are finished, repeat these words: Marticaul, thank you for your help, and I humbly ask that you bless all those who are dear to me.” Now imagine in your mind all the people who you would like to send a blessing to. Then you can say: Thank you Marticaul for your help and for the blessings you have bestowed upon my loved ones. You should get up slowly (and respectfully), maintaining silence for 10 more minutes. In other words, do not talk to anyone for at least 10 minutes after you are finished, just bask in the glow and absorb it all in before proceeding through out your day. Tana is very gifted in many ways and I so appreciate him including me in his wonderful insight and giving me a 'heads up.'
I hope you will use this highly spiritual information, and please share this information with anyone you meet or know. From what I understand, it is going to be a very powerful day full of blessings! This is your opportunity to help me share this blessing with the people you know. Please forward this info to everyone and anyone you know. Marticaul told Tana that those people who share this message with others, will be blessed 10-fold for it!
Please feel free to email me about your experience on this very special day. I'd love to share in your joy.
Brightest blessings to all.

Where is the LOVE?
What's wrong with the world mama?
People living like aint got no mamas
I think the whole worlds addicted to the drama
Only attracted to the things that bring you trauma
Overseas yeah we tryin to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin
In the USA the big CIA, the Bloodz and the Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And if you hatin you're bound to get irate
Yeah madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
You gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love y'all
People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(where is the lovex3)(the love2x)
It just ain't the same all ways have changed
New days are strange is the world the insane?
If love and peace so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations dropping bombs
Chemical gases filling lungs of little ones
With ongoing suffering
As the youth die young
So ask yourself is the loving really strong?
So I can ask myself really what is going wrong
With this world that we living in
People keep on giving in
Makin wrong decisions
Only visions of them livin and
Not respecting each other
Deny thy brother
The wars' going on but the reasons' undercover
The truth is kept secret
Swept under the rug
If you never know truth
Then you never know love
Where's the love y'all?(I don't know)
Where's the truth y'all?(I don't know)
Where's the love y'all?
People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(where is the lovex3)(the lovex2)
I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm getting older y'all people get colder
Most of us only care about money makin
Selfishness got us followin the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting their young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what the see in the cinema
Whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality
Instead of spreading love, we're spreading anomosity
Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling down
It's no wonder why sometimes I'm feeling under
I gotta keep my faith alive, until love is found
People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father, Father, Father, help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(fade)
The simple art of blessing.
This is such a wonderful and beautiful message. Today, it seems that no one lives by this motto anymore or they are to afraid and embarrassed to try it or even say it. If the thought pops into their mind, it's dismissed as fast as when it popped in. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

You turn me on, you lift me up
And like the sweetest cup I'd share with you
You lift me up, don't you ever stop, I'm here with you
Now it's all or nothing
'Cause you say you'll follow through
You follow me, and I, I, I follow you
What you gonna do when things go wrong?
What you gonna do when it all cracks up?
What you gonna do when the Love burns down?
What you gonna do when the flames go up?
Who is gonna come and turn the tide?
What's it gonna take to make a dream survive?
Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside?
Who's gonna save you?
Alive and KickingStay until your love is, Alive and Kicking
Stay until your love is, until your love is, Alive
Oh you lift me up to the crucial top, so I can see
Oh you lead me on, till the feelings come
And the lights that shine on
But if that don't mean nothing
Like if someday it should fall through
You'll take me home where the magic's from
And I'll be with you
What you gonna do when things go wrong?
What you gonna do when it all cracks up?
What you gonna do when the Love burns down?
What you gonna do when the flames go up?
Who is gonna come and turn the tide?
What's it gonna take to make a dream survive?
Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside?
Don't say goodbye Don't say goodbye
In the final seconds who's gonna save you?
Oh, Alive and Kicking
Stay until your love is, love is, Alive and Kicking
Oh, Alive and Kicking
Stay until your love is, love is, Alive and Kicking
You turn me on, you lift me up
And like the sweetest cup I'd share with you

We are all one with the universe and connected to each other.
I've been stumbling across numerous video's which have interested me in one way or another. I enjoy the art of sharing. So here is another video worth checking out. Please take a moment out of your day and read the messages. Enjoy. This is the awakening of the cosmic heart.
The importance of having friends.
Friends are such a huge part of our lives today, whether it be a person to hang out with or even a pet who welcomes your arrival home and enjoys snuggling with you. They are like quiet angels who love and accept you, plus enjoy your company and sharing your life with you. This is a wonderful video that speaks volumes with it's message. I hope you enjoy it and that you never forget the power of friends. Cherish them while you can.

2010 - some interesting tidbits about the number 10.
Here we now are, in the year 2010. For those who work with numbers or are mathmaticians, the number 10 holds some significance. The number 10 is very popular and used very often in today's world. Check out this article on why '10' is the perfect number. You will find it quite interesting. This article was published in the Himalayan Times and written by Krita Raut. (To view the actual article, click here).
KATHMANDU: Revellers all over the world start the countdown to a brand new year from 10; what’s interesting is that this year the countdown also ended at 10 as the year 2010 began at the stroke of the midnight. A natural number, 10 is often regarded as the most perfect number since it contains the unit that did it all — one and the zero. In other words, the addition of zero symbolises the perfection of number one’s meaning. That very much explains the use of the term ‘a perfect 10’ for something/someone that achieves a perfect score. Even a person who is physically flawless and attractive is often referred to as ‘a 10’.
The influence of number 10 dates back to ancient times; the civilisation of Mayas regarded it as the representation of the end of a cycle and the beginning of another. For them, 10 was the number of life and death. Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, the German theologian and astrologer called 10 “the number of all or universal, and the complete number signifying the full course of life”. According to him, this number which is a return to the unit after the development of the cycle of first nine numbers, either implies all the number within itself or explains them by itself. “In Eastern astrology 10 has a special significance as astrologers have a very high regard for the 10 directions,” said former president of Asian Astrologer’s Congress, Khila Nath Bastakoty. Here are other significance of number 10:
In calendar
• The number of days added to the calendar for countries to adopt to the Gregorian calendar (created by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to reform the old Julian calendar) after the year 1582 until the year 1700 (not a leap year), since the year 1600 was a leap year. Those countries are France, Portugal, Italy and Spain in 1582, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Catholic Germany countries, 1 or 2 years later and Hungary in 1587.
• The number of (Chinese) heavenly/celestial stems, originated from Yin/Yang (negative/positive) and five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) representing Chinese lunar years.
• In ancient Chinese and some other Asian countries, the night time is considered to be lasting for 10 hours, from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am.
Symbolism

• Sum of 5 + 5, the number 10 represents the two opposite current directions of the conscience — involution and evolution.

The 10 avatars are Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parasurama, Sri Rama, Sri Krishna, Buddha and Kalki
• The Ten Commandments of Exodus 20:2-13 and Deuteronomy 5:6-17 are considered a cornerstone of Judaism and Christianity.
• In Deuteronomy 26:12, the Torah commands Jews to give one-tenth of their produce to the poor.
• Jews observe the annual Ten Days of Repentance beginning on Rosh Hashanah and ending on Yom Kippur.
